Qualified Pure Spanish Horse
For classification as a qualified pure spanish horse, a PRE is assessed to determine locomotive, genetic, and breeding abilities.
Horses must be correctly inscribed, and have already passed the Revision that is held at three years of age. They are assessed to see that they comply with the criteria relating to
- the breed morphology or conformation
- functional testing
- examination of the reproductive organs
- veterinary control

Whether you are looking to ride for pleasure, to compete, or to breed your PRE, the calificado - qualified - classification provides a measure of security. It tells you that the horse you are looking at has passed independent veterinary checks, and met breed conformation standards.
Buying progeny of qualified PREs carries the assurance that the parents were cleared radiologically for conditions such as osteochondrosis.
Qualification of the Spanish Horse - Veterinary
The horses are subjected to a veterinary examination in order to rule out serious transmissible defects affecting them in their limbs or as a whole.
A radiological examination of the hock and joints of fetlocks and hooves is performed in order to rule out osteochondrosis, osteoarthritis, and various exostoses.

Functionality characteristics of Spanish Purebreds are rated from one to 10, paying special attention to
- suppleness
- balance
- coordination
- regularity
- harmony
- cadence
- angle and shape of hind limbs
- front elevation
- length of stride
Qualified Pure Spanish Horse Scoring
In accordance with breed criteria, qualification is by a scoring system. Horses must attain a final assessment score of 70 points or more to be accepted as qualified stallions or broodmares.
