Peregrino - the Farm with a Vision
Peregrino is the Peregrine Falcon. Peregrino is also the spanish word for Pilgrim.
Rancho Peregrino in the Terra Alta of Tarragona, Spain, has the vision of the falcon and the heart of the pilgrim.
The land of Peregrino was once farmed. It shows
- in the carefully hand-hewed bancales, the terraces that make it possible to grow crops on the steep hillsides.
- in the areas where the almond trees have grown wild, yet still stand in gently ordered lines
- in the crofter’s hut, built by a long-gone farmer who was looking ahead to a long future.
Unspoiled land, untouched since the Spanish Civil War 70 or more years ago, it stood untended, waiting for new life.
That new life is heralded by the sweeping blades of those brash new arrivals, the tall white windmills, and undergirded by the rain that rushes down the steepest slopes,
following its ancient way to the valley floor.
The Immediate Vision
That Peregrino be:Eco-Friendly
- realistic and earth-considerate planting programs, wind and solar power, true horse power..
Self Sustaining
- eggs collected in the morning, bread baking in a wood oven, vegetables and herbs from the gardens, honey from the hives.
