To import a horse from Spain to the USA involves some export paperwork in Spain, followed by some import paperwork in America. When these are correctly handled, the process runs smoothly.

HEALTH requirements for horses when importing from Spain
All horses imported from Europe to the USA must meet US Health Dept requirements.
Before leaving Europe it is recommended that tests are performed to ensure that the
- Horse tests below a specified level in the piroplasmosis blood tests What is piroplasmosis
- Breeding stock tests negative for CEM - contagious equine metritis - which necessitates 30 days quarantine in Europe.
- Equine flu vaccinations are up to date
On arrival in the USA the horse is re-tested.

By road to Amsterdam, by accompanied flight to LA, New York or Miami. Cost approx*. 8.000 euros, including quarantine.

Transport cost, including quarantine & vet checks, 8 000 euros* 5. Horse is transported to Miami, where he stays for import tests, then on to final destination. 2. INSURANCE Your insurance company normally requires a specified vet check. They can provide you with a copy of what is needed, and a vet here can perform the check.
