Foal Training
At the core, training an orphan foal is no different from the foal training of any other of our newborn PRE foals.
We look to make learning a part of life, something that foals accept as ’OK, just another interesting thing to discover.’
Our approach is to include ’play and discover’ sessions in everything we do. We never want it to be something that has any stress attached to it. Their training as foals is an ongoing process, incorporated into everything that happens.
Foal Training Basics
Serranilla was in a box, looking out. B Babes in the courtyard section. No hassles about the separation.
As well as the intro to Foal-Eating-Baggies, the session included:
- Tying up - headcollars set well back on necks. Tying done with quick release knots. Andres never more than two steps away,
plus which he has a knife ready to cut rope if necessary.
- feet picked up and pretend-rasped.
- lead, stop, turn.
- Unknown Things standing next to you and Unknown Things wrapping around you - Measuring Stick and Weight Tape.
