Filming and Editing
Filming and
Editing - a world apart
I spent twenty years in live television news and producing
documentary films. Now we bring you the up-to-date news
about our horses via visual
mini-documentaries.
We present in three categories:
- Working Clips - filmed during regular sessions, showing you
the horse in work
- Out and About - the horse in casual mode
- Specials and Artistic - videos filmed because I love the creativity.
Sit back with a quiet cup of coffee, and just enjoy.
Filming and
Editing - The Goals
- We will glory in the
beauty that is the Spanish horse, and strive to make
videos that do him justice.
- We will show the truth,
and - in as much as is possible - visually present the whole story.
- We will strive to uphold an artistic
standard, and edit film to make your viewing
experience enjoyable.
- We will date our filming,
so that you have a realistic perspective of the horse you are
seeing
- We will adhere to copyright
procedures - see below.
- We will film horses as they
are on the day we are shooting.
- We will include times when
a horse tried, even if he failed.
- We will respect our
viewers, knowing that you are
following your dream.
Filming and
Editing - The Strikes
- We will not alter filmed
material in the edit process to conceal or distort
facets that are relevant to the buying decison.
- We will not use slow
motion to conceal defects, poor movement or lameness.
- We will not use slow
motion to try to make a horse look to be something he is
not.
- If we show a horse in slow motion, we will also show him moving
normally in that same pace.
- As of November 2007, slow motion shots in a video are identified with a symbol in the corner of the screen
- We will not use colour
enhancement effects to misrepresent the coat of a horse.
Filming and Editing -
the Whole Story (!)
From my blog, after filming the June
2007 video 104-F, an 'Out and About' shoot.
It's all hand held - tripods aren't very practical in a
situation like this. I don't stage and set up events - our
filming policy is to get the horse exactly as he is on the day we
happen to film. As you can see in this particular video, location
can be anywhere - this was in the mini-nature reserve/ camping
grounds that encircle his stables.
Shooting schedule thus reads:
Note artistic contrast of andalusian blue sky, dust-colored
sand, and dark green pine branches. Decide on good starting point
on far side of camping area. Relocate, get sand in boots.
Focus on horse, follow him as he moves and kicks up sand.
Dodge the trees, duck the branches, choke on sand.
Try to stabilise shot affected by jerky movements caused by
choking. Trip over roots hidden in sand.
Hold camera up above sand as falling. Get great moving action
shot of dark green pine branches and andalusian blue sky.
Spit out sand, relocate horse....
