Farm Recipes

It started with a simple comment about an old faithful recipe, and a promise to hand it on. I decided to get artistic and foto the process as I went along.

Fine - in concept. But I am first off a journalistic fotographer, used to the big outdoors, with space and sunlight and movement to frame and capture the moments. So this would be new territory.

It is a matter of personal quirk that I never Photoshop my shots.
Every aspect, every line, every edge of light and shadow is presented as it was captured at that moment.

I read up once about how Food Foto Shoots are set up.

A mini-army of elves prepares multiple examples of what will be filmed.
When these are determined perfect they are frozen in suspended animation at the key stages.
There is specially chosen linen with co-ordinated designer crockery.
Professional lighting shines on carefully angled surfaces, while duct tape holds the plates in place.
Oil is at hand to spray on just the right spot, for just the right gleam
. . and . .and . . and. . .

Enter moi . .

My kitchen includes:
- A couple of definitely temperamental lightbulbs, supported by a country electric system that goes down, especially in winter.
- An eclectic collection of working surface tiles.
- An eccentric collection of plates, bowls and dishes.

BUT . .
Much more to the point is that in the professional shoots, the persons holding the cameras and taking the shots are not the same persons as are chopping the onions or kneading the dough.
