MIURA is an old name, a stud that has been in existence for over 150 years. Bloodlines from the Miura stud can be found in many other of the foundation yeguadas in Andalucia.
The horses are from what is generally looked on as Carthusian origin. Initially formed with PRE mares from Don Juan Jose Zapata, (a founding figure in the history of the Hierro del Bocado), with many sires used at the stud proceeding from Vicente Romero, another key figure in Carthusian lines.
These were horses bred as working horses. They were looked on to be fit, with good bone, being of the classic and neatly compact type we expect to see in carthusians, and with the ’presence’ that is an essential.
We find records of the PRE horses of Miura bloodlines having been acquired by the State for their Stallion Centres, the excellent breeding centres of the Yeguada Militar.
