As Pepe el de Mendez, this complete horseman and superb presenter of arabian horses is known and respected across Europe. Nearly 30 years since it all began, and the name of Jose Ruiz Bautista still echoes through the Arabian showing world.
"Pepe el de Mendez" = Pepe, he of Mendez.
Pepe is the spanish shortened form of the more formal Jose.
Mendez refers to Diego Mendez, leading Arabian horse breeder of the epoch.
In 1976 Pepe began his legendary time with Diego Mendez at Complutum Arabians near Madrid in central Spain. In the years that followed, they were inextricably associated as Pepe took the Mendez Arabian horses to the ultimate heights across the globe, gathering a collection of trophies unmatched in Spain.
